Shillong, June 16: In a recent incident at Kapol International School in Kandivali West, a teacher reportedly played the ‘Azaan’ (Muslim call for prayers) during the morning assembly session, leading to protests from parents and demonstrations by activists from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena-UBT. The incident has since triggered investigations by the police following a complaint.

Deputy Commissioner of Police A.K. Bansal confirmed that the police have initiated an inquiry into the matter, taking into account the complaint and the concerns raised by the parents and political activists. Bansal stated, “This will be thoroughly investigated from all angles, and appropriate action will be taken.”

Amidst the controversy, BJP Mumbai general secretary and local MLA Yogesh Sagar led a noisy demonstration outside the school premises, demanding swift action against the teacher involved. Sagar dismissed the school management’s explanation that the ‘Azaan’ was played unintentionally, asserting that it was a deliberate act. He further alleged that the school was attempting to protect the teacher, who belongs to a minority community.

The situation remains tense as authorities and concerned parties await the outcome of the police investigation. The incident has drawn attention to the delicate balance between religious practices and educational environments, highlighting the importance of fostering understanding and respecting diverse beliefs within the educational community.
