Shillong, June 16:  The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has reported that a town in southern Myanmar recently encountered its lowest temperature in 58 years. Theinzayat, located in Mon state, registered a temperature of 18.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, as stated by the Department, marking a significant milestone in the town’s weather history.

Earlier this year, on April 25, Theinzayat experienced its highest temperature in 58 years, reaching a scorching 43 degrees Celsius, according to data provided by the weather bureau. These extreme temperature fluctuations have been attributed to the impact of unusual weather patterns, as explained by Than Naing, assistant director of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

The occurrence of such a record-breaking low temperature has captured the attention of locals and weather enthusiasts alike. As the region grapples with the effects of changing climate patterns, it serves as a reminder of the importance of monitoring and understanding weather phenomena to better prepare for their potential consequences. The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology continues to closely observe and analyze these weather events for further insights into the changing climate trends in southern Myanmar.
