SHILLONG, June 18: The Trinamool Congress has pitched for a judicious and responsible approach to the appointment of the chairperson and co-chairperson of various committees in the state.
The party vice-president, George B. Lyngdoh on Sunday said questions have arisen from various sections of society on the expenditure on such political appointments.
“Capable and experienced people can contribute to governance but the government should ensure there is no unnecessary expenditure from the exchequer,” he said.
The expenditure cannot be fruitful if the appointments are made to please a few individuals, Lyngdoh said. “Such appointments must be made judiciously and responsibly,” he added.
The Voice of the People Party also asked the government to stop all political appointments, terming them a wasteful expenditure of the state’s resources.
“We are pretty sure that the state is not going to benefit since it is nothing but political patronage to party loyalists and leaders who will enjoy the perks and facilities at the cost of the state exchequer,” the VPP said.
