SHILLONG: The State Government is waiting for the retirement of Chief Secretary WMS Pariat to accommodate him as the Chairman of Meghalaya Public Service Commission, official sources said.

Pariat will be retiring on December 31.

After the end of tenure of the previous Chairman Ashok Kumar Tigidi in December last year, the Government has failed to appoint a full-fledged head of MPSC resulting in delay in declaring of results of various examinations conducted by the Commission. The MPSC is only carrying out written tests and due to the absence a chairman the commission is not conducting any personal interview.

In the absence of a full time Chairman, the Government had earlier appointed senior MPSC member WB Suchiang as the acting Chairman, but he retired in June last.

The wait will be longer for the job aspirants of MPSC as there are a few more months left for Pariat to retire. The Chief Secretary has not been available for comments for the past many days. The officials at the office of the Chief Secretary said that he was busy in a series of meeting with senior Government officials and would not be available to the press.
