Agartala: The Indo-Bangla joint team would undertake joint survey for reconstruction of border pillars, identification of missing pillar and construction of fresh pillars along the border.
The decision to start the joint survey has been taken in the three-day Indo-Bangla border meeting ended at Circuit House here on Saturday.
The joint survey would be carried out along South Tripura-Chittagong, Gomati-Khagracherri, Khowai-Habiganj/Moulavi Bazar, Sipahijala-Brahmanbaria, said NR Biswal, In-charge of Survey of India (Eastern) and Director General of Land Records & Surveys Bangladesh Md. Abdul Mannan at a joint press conference here.
Claming that there is no dispute over the Indo-Bangla border, they said only two places- Chandannagar (Kamalpur) and Muhurichar (Belonia) have been notified as adversely possessed.
However, no concrete decision on Muhurichar has been taken in the meeting. Though Muhurichar is still remains un-demarcated, the both side decided to insert wooden pigs along the border so that Joint River Commission could visit the place, said Mr. Biswal.
“A Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) has been signed between India’s the then External Affairs Minister SM Krishna and Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni but it could not be enforced untill Parliaments of both countries give green signal to it”, said Mannan who led the Bangladesh delegation.
According to statistics, ‘dispute’ persists centering 25 spots along the Indo-Bangla border.
Both Biswal and Mannan are happy as the meeting has been ended with good note with both parties agreeing working together. In the sideline of the meeting, Mannan gave full-scale praise to the people of the state for their tremendous support to the people of Bangladesh during 1971 Liberation War.
“We are really thankful to the people of Tripura for their generous support during the Liberation War of Bangladesh”, he added.
