SHILLONG, June 28: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the Chairman of the Hindustan Steel Works Construction Limited to indicate the contractual specifications that may not have been followed in the construction of the PA Sangma Sports Complex in Tura and to also indicate the period of warranty during which the contractor is required to set right if anything is found remiss.
Hearing a PIL filed by one Amit R. Marak following the collapse of a portion of the retaining wall of the under-construction stadium, the court said, “The state would do well to clear the debris from the road alongside the PA Sangma Stadium in Tura which appears to be blocked and locals may be facing serious problems as a consequence.”
“Though the state was represented, the other respondents did not appear to have been served the notice. All the respondents should be served and informed that the matter will appear a week hence,” the court said.
Besides the Meghalaya government, the other respondents are the Secretary of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the Chairman of Hindustan Steel Works Construction Limited and the Managing Director/Director of Badri Rai Constructions.
