Army wives celebrate Association Day

 SHILLONG: The Headquarters 101 Area celebrated Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Day on August 23 by organising various events like Declamation Contest, Fashion Show, Flower Dance and a presentation by the students of ASHA School, a school for differently abled children.

On this day, ten war widows, whose husbands laid down their lives for the country and an additional 23 widows settled in and around Shillong were also felicitated.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, President AFWWA, Eastern Air Command Chitralekha Sharma lauded the ladies of 101 Area for their various initiatives towards the empowerment of the Olive Green families.

AWWA stands for `Sharing and Caring’ with abundant “Hope, Trust and faith”. A voluntary organization AWWA aims at the holistic development and well being of Army wives and children, as well as the rehabilitation of war widows and differently abled children. AWWA supplements the official welfare efforts of the Indian Army.

A handicraft mela at the Rhino Sajni Shopping Complex was also inaugurated on August 24 by Anupam Panwar.
