SHILLONG: The State Government will have to spend Rs 80 crore for the construction of the buildings and quarters for officers in the four new districts which were created last year.

Chief Secretary WMS Pariat told reporters recently that while Rs 40 crore will be spent for the construction of the new buildings, another Rs 40 crore is needed to construct the quarters for officers.

This will be in addition to the salary of the staff posted in the new districts, which is a recurring expenditure for the State Government. The State Government has decided to fast track the creation of posts for the new districts by setting up an Empowerment Committee headed by the Chief Secretary which will fill up posts after receiving proposals from various departments.
