Delhi-NCR receives heavy rainfall, provides relief from heat

Shillong, July 6: Heavy rainfall was experienced in several parts of Delhi and neighboring areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday, bringing relief from the scorching heat. The city had already witnessed rainfall on Wednesday, prompting the weather office to issue a yellow alert for the coming days.

The rain in Delhi varied from light to moderate intensity, resulting in waterlogging and traffic congestion in multiple areas. Since Wednesday, the city recorded 5 mm of rainfall. Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh also experienced heavy downpours, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in certain parts.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 9 am was at 81, falling within the satisfactory category. The relative humidity at 8:30 am was recorded at 83%, as stated in the IMD bulletin.

The regional meteorological center’s seven-day forecast predicts a generally cloudy sky with occasional light rain or drizzle in the national capital today. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to reach 36 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Wednesday witnessed light to moderate rainfall in Delhi, with the Meteorological office anticipating further showers in the coming days. The Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius, which is normal for this time of year, and a maximum temperature of 36.3 degrees Celsius.
