Shillong, July 8: According to Statistics Canada, employment in Canada rose by 60,000 or 0.3% in June, primarily driven by gains in full-time work. The employment gains were concentrated among young men aged 15 to 24 and men aged 25 to 54. However, employment among women of all age groups remained relatively unchanged.
Meanwhile, as per IANS the unemployment rate in June increased to 5.4%, reaching the highest level in over a year, as more individuals actively searched for work. The unemployment rate saw a 0.2 percentage point rise, following a similar increase in May. In June, there were 1.1 million people unemployed, indicating an increase of 54,000 or 4.9% within the month.
Statistics Canada also reported that average hourly wages experienced a year-over-year increase of 4.2% in June, following a rise of 5.1% in May.
