TURA, July 9: The TMC in Garo Hills on Sunday came down heavily on Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for repeatedly claiming that education is the top priority of the government when the state’s ranking continues to be at the bottom of the Ministry of Education’s Performance Grading Index.
“It is unacceptable that Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma has repeatedly claimed that education is a top priority for the government, yet the state continues to rank at the bottom of the Ministry of Education’s Performance Grading Index. This is a clear indication that the NPP-led MDA Government has failed to deliver on their promise to prioritise education,” TMC youth leader Richard Marak said.
Marak added that the MDA must be held accountable for their inaction and lack of commitment towards improving the education sector and that it was unacceptable that students in Meghalaya are suffering due to the government’s negligence and failure to provide high-quality educational opportunities.
“We demand immediate and decisive action from the government to address the challenges facing the education sector. This includes increasing funding, improving teacher training and support, and promoting greater community involvement in education. The future of our state depends on the quality of education we provide to our students, and the government must deliver on their promise to make education a top priority in Meghalaya,” Marak said.
It may be mentioned that Meghalaya was ranked at the bottom of the Performance Grading Index 2021-22. Three Northeastern states Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya were adjudged the poorest performing states in terms of education in the latest report.
