SHILLONG: The state BJP has decided to adopt ‘wait and watch’ policy as far as fielding candidate in Tura is concerned in 2014 Lok Sabha election.
Indicating this, the state BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty on Wednesday said the party would study the situation before fielding candidate from Tura to take on all probably Agatha Sangma, who won the seat in the last election on an NCP ticket.
This time she is likely to contest from National People’s Party (NPP), headed by her father Purno A Sangma.
Chakraborty’s statement assumes significance since NPP is a partner of BJP-led NDA.
“We want to contest in both the seats (Shillong and Tura), but we will conduct a study at the organisational level before reaching any conclusion as far as Tura is concerned,” Chakraborty said.
According to him, BJP wants to see removal of Congress from the Centre.
He also informed that the party had already started the process of selecting candidate for Shillong seat.
The party will seek the advice of the district committee before recommending the names of the candidates to the central party leadership for clearance, he added
