SHILLONG, July 10: The revered Secretariat here, which is among the most important government offices in Meghalaya, has of late been subject to dishonourable practices, all thanks to those that accompany their political bosses and then remain in their vehicles on the Secretariat premises indulging in unwanted actions.
Liquor bottles were found dumped in the drain outside the building along with garbage; such a sight sends a wrong message to the masses about the Secretariat.
After dropping their bosses, some people often urinate outside the Secretariat building. In another instance, one person was seen smoking while sitting on the stairs of one of the gates of the Secretariat.
Nonetheless, it may also be noted that the facilities inside the establishment are also unsatisfactory.
Many of the toilets in the Secretariat lack toiletries, and some of them emit foul smell. Besides this, parking is also a big issue in the Secretariat as several vehicles belonging to politicians, officers, employees and visitors arrive on the premises leading to congestion.
However, the state government has plans to shift the Secretariat to New Shillong Township, and construction of the new building is expected to start soon.
