TURA: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), East Zone, has strongly opposed the alleged illegal appointment of 18 Excise constables by the Commissioner of Excise, Meghalaya, six of whom are posted in the Williamnagar Excise Office, saying that it violated and defied the Government’s order which was issued recently.
According to the GSU, the East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner had earlier issued an official circular that no temporary or ad hoc appointments may be made without the MPSC or DSC’s recommendation.
The GSU pointed out that the appointments of the said constables without the MPSC or the DSC’s recommendation was unfortunate as well as a blatant disregard to the circular issued by the Deputy Commissioner.
The alleged illegal appointments which came to the open through an RTI filed has evoked strong protest from the GSU who have appealed to the authority in question to take immediate action by terminating their appointments and letting them apply through proper channel and advertisement.
