SHILLONG: The proposed all-party meeting of September 3 to discuss the issue of ILP has lost its relevance after the State Government on Thursday struck down the proposal of the NGOs to implement the same.
UDP leader Paul Lyngdoh on Thursday said, “It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister has already decided against the demand of NGOs before meeting the political parties.”
“Howe can we attend the proposed meeting as it makes no sense since a decision has already been taken,” Lyngdoh said.
He compared the present decision of the Government on ILP to the selection of a bridegroom without the parents being consulted. “If the parents are consulted later, the marriage will be doomed,” Lyngdoh pointed.
Moreover, the UDP and the NPP are yet to receive any official invitation from Government for the all party meeting.
NPP leader James Sangma also questioned the relevance of having an all-party meeting after the Government’s decision against ILP.
“Since the Government has already made a decision, this will imply that the all-party meet on ILP will be a one sided affair”, James said, adding that it is weird that the Chief Minister, on the one hand, was speaking about the Congress manifesto during Thursday’s meeting with the NGOs, on the hand he is calling for an all-party meet to discuss ILP.
