Mukul inaugurates hostel for female health workers

 TURA: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the hostel and academic block of the Female Health Workers’ Training School (FHWTS) at a function in Rongkhon near here.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the NRHM Sub-State Warehouse which will cater to the five districts of Garo Hills. The warehouse has been constructed in the premises of the FHWTS.

Equipped with a laboratory and library, the academic block of the FHWTS was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.11 crore. On the other hand, Rs 1.18 crore was spent for the construction of the hostel which will be able to accommodate 60 trainees.

Speaking at the function, Dr Sangma said that the medical and the education sector have alwyas been the focal point of the governments’ developmental initiatives.

“There is, however, a need for convergence to implement schemes effectively and within a stipulated time frame,” Dr Sangma said.

Referring to the criticism of the State’s flagship programme, Mega Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), Dr Sangma said that the misunderstanding prevailed due to ineffective dissemination of information amongst the stake holders and concerned departments.

The Chief Minister later assured the gathering that a medical facility would be available for the people of Rongkhon area by next year.
