JOWAI, July 20: The Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills has directed all shopkeepers, vendors and consumers to accept all coins as issued by the Reserve Bank of India. This comes amid rejection of Rs 10 coins in East Jaintia Hills.
“If anyone is found refusing to accept the coins, action will be taken against them as per section 188 IPC,” the DC said in an order. “As per section 6 (1) of Indian Coinage Act 2011, all coins are legal tenders ‘in payment’. Refusal to accept legal tender of payment will attract punishment under relevant penal code 1988,” the order read.
