Shillong, July 21: Several opposition MPs have given notices to discuss the situation in Manipur during the second day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session. They have also sought a reply from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) RS MP Jha and Congress Lok Sabha MPs Tagore and Gogoi were among those who submitted notices to address the issues of ethnic violence and disturbing incidents in Manipur.

Jha’s notice emphasized the severity of the situation, with over 140 deaths, thousands injured, and tens of thousands displaced. The horrifying images of women being paraded naked have deeply shaken the nation’s conscience, and attacks on innocent tribal villages continue unabated.

In his notice, Tagore highlighted the recent reports and statements from the Manipur Governor, pointing out the urgency of discussing the escalating violence against women and children in the region. The gravity of these incidents calls for a prioritized and urgent discussion in Parliament, setting aside routine business.

The MPs collectively called for peace in Manipur and decisive action to address violence against women and children. They also demanded an explanation from the Prime Minister for his silence on the matter and urged him to outline the actions taken by the government.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Chaturvedi and Congress RS MP Gohil also gave notices for discussions on the Manipur violence, reflecting the widespread concern among the opposition about the situation in the state.
