Shillong, July 23: Several parts of the country are facing relentless spells of rain, leading to devastating flash floods and landslides that have caused fatalities and extensive damage. Normal life has been severely disrupted, and more rain is predicted in states like Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Himachal Pradesh.

In Delhi, the water level of the Yamuna river crossed the danger mark, flowing at 205.81 meters on Sunday morning. The continuous fluctuation in the river’s water level is mainly due to heavy rainfall in the hill states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The danger mark is set at 205.33 meters, putting the region on high alert.

As per India Today, Himachal Pradesh is one of the worst-hit states during this monsoon havoc, with five people losing their lives in separate rain-related incidents. Among the casualties, a Nepali couple was tragically buried alive in a landslide, while an elderly couple and their grandson are feared dead after their dhaba (eatery) was swept away in a flash flood in Shimla.

In Uttarakhand, all 13 districts have been issued a yellow alert, with isolated areas of Dehradun, Pithoragarh, and Uttarkashi facing an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. Landslides and blocked roads, such as the Badrinath Highway in Chamoli, have further exacerbated the situation, leading to the suspension of the Yamunotri Yatra due to the calamity.

As the relentless downpours continue, rescue operations and relief efforts are ongoing to manage the aftermath of the floods and landslides.
