SHILLONG, July 25: All state branches of Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) congregated to host the 77th TNAI National Conference in January this year and a series of events were lined up for the upcoming days. However, their aspirations were short lived as mayhem broke loose in Manipur on May 3.
The mega event was held in Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati, where around 2,000 nurses from across the country participated, along with national and international guests.
Nurses of the region also got the privilege of showcasing their talents and the regions rich art and culture during the programme.
National vice president of TNAI NE region, C Susan Tada Kharsyntiew, in a letter, reached out to the aggrieved nurses of Manipur to address their issues relating to the welfare and service conditions in the region.
Kharsyntiew expressed anguish while pointing out the difficulties faced by the healthcare professionals including the acute shortage of staff.
“In the eyes of a Nurse all patients are one, irrespective of caste, creed, ethnicity or beliefs. Even in times of natural disasters, conflict and wars etc. Nurses are duty bound and usually do not leave their post. Foremost in the minds of nurses is to meet the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of their patients. But now this crisis in Manipur has shaken the lives of even the Health Care Providers! This leads me to ask – WHO WILL HEAL THE HEALERS? (sic)”
Kharsyntiew called for an end to all violence and atrocities and restoration of peace and normalcy in the ‘Jewel of India’.
