SHILLONG, July 25: KHADC’s permission is now mandatory for holding fishing competitions.
The executive committee of the Council on Tuesday approved a notification dated July 16 issued by the Fisheries department in this connection.
At present, there is no regulation for fishing competitions in the state. The Council has taken this decision in a bid to improve revenue generation.
Talking to reporters after a meeting of the KHADC executive committee, Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem said that all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from the five districts — East, West, South West and Eastern West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi — and the Himas and Dorbar Shnongs have been apprised of the notification. “We are seeking the support and cooperation of the district administrations and the traditional bodies on this new initiative,” he said. The CEM said that the notification was issued as per the provisions laid under the United Khasi Jaintia District Fisheries Act 1954 and also under Rule 29 of the Assam and Meghalaya Rules, 1951.
He informed that they have fixed different rates as fees to grant permission for fishing competitions.
