NONGSTOIN: The Sordar of the Hima Raid Mynsaw, Hindro Samakha, has asked the local residents to begin construction of private dwellings at Langpih.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Monday, Samakaha said, “I have given instructions to the residents to begin construction of their houses since residents on the Assam side of the disputed area have been constructing their houses without any intervention from the Meghalaya Government or the Assam Government.”
Samakha informed that the In-Charge of Langpih Police Outpost had assured that he would continue to provide all necessary support and security to the residents to construct their houses as long as he remained at Langpih.
Recently, members of the Hima Raid Mynsaw had met the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner to enquire whether the Meghalaya Government had issued any order for resumption of construction work of the market shed at Langpih.
The Deputy Commissioner, S Kharlyngdoh, had sought one weeks’ time to discuss the matter with the Meghalaya Chief Secretary.
Surprisingly, Assam police personnel stationed at Langpih, on learning of the construction activities, visited the spot and took pictures and filmed the activities after which they quietly withdrew from the area.
