SHILLONG, July 29: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Saturday said the state government will endeavour to overcome the challenges in the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 in a phased manner.
“There are challenges but we will work towards overcoming them in a year. I am very confident that positive things are going to happen,” he told reporters.
He pointed out that the challenges are due to the need for the introduction of the four-year course, which necessitates the improvement of infrastructure.
He said there is no opposition to the implementation of NEP, 2020.
According to him, manpower has to be augmented and multidisciplinary courses have to be initiated.
“You need more professors, lecturers and academic people to come in,” Sangma said, adding that financial support is required to overcome the challenges.
He said the individual colleges may not be able to do it in one go.
“Therefore, we have discussed this with many colleges and we are working on how we can support them. It cannot happen overnight as the issue entails huge financial challenges,” Sangma reiterated.
He said the state government is committed to moving forward. He claimed that almost all academicians and colleges have appreciated the government’s move to go ahead with NEP, 2020 as it gives a more holistic approach to the entire education system.
“The NEP, 2020 will prepare our youth and youngsters in a much better manner for the future,” he added.
