SHILLONG: The KHNAM has backed the decision of the Village Defence Party (VDP) of New Nongstoin village in West Khasi Hills District to issue ‘quit notices’ to all the non-tribal residents of the village who do not possess valid documents to prove their identity.

“The decision of the VDP is a right step towards checking the flow of illegal migrants,” KHNAM general secretary Adelbert Nongrum said here on Tuesday.

He also urged the various traditional institutions including Dorbar Shnong to take similar steps.
