SHILLONG, July 31: The Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) on Monday lauded the state government for its effort to address the critical shortage of doctors in the state viz., establishment of the Meghalaya Medical Recruitment Board (MMRB) to speed up the recruitment process.
In a letter to the Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, Sampath Kumar, MMSA general secretary, Dr R Pohsnem said that the creation of the MMRB and the successful recruitment of 400 new doctors into regular services within the Health department have been significant milestones in augmenting healthcare services across different levels of health institutions in Meghalaya.
According to him, the establishment of MMRB has revolutionised the recruitment process ensuring a streamlined and transparent approach, and it stands as a testament to the administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery in the state.
“The prompt and efficient recruitment of 400 doctors has not only bolstered the strength of the healthcare workforce but has also alleviated the shortage of medical professionals in rural and remote areas. The impact of these new recruits is already evident in the improved accessibility and quality of medical services provided to the people of Meghalaya, especially in regions that previously faced challenges due to scarcity of doctors,” he said. Furthermore, the MMSA general secretary said that the foresight exhibited by the government has played a pivotal role in addressing the deficiency of doctors across various health institutions in the state. This proactive measure showcases the government’s dedication to ensuring the health and well- being of its citizens, even in the face of unprecedented challenges, he said.
“It is also a source of inspiration for all healthcare professionals, reaffirming our collective vision to provide accessible, equitable, and high- quality healthcare to every citizen of Meghalaya,” the MMSA general secretary said.
He also added that the association is ready to collaborate with the government to strengthen the healthcare ecosystem further and contribute to the health and well-being of our fellow citizens.
