VPP wants MGNREGS grants released

SHILLONG, Aug 1: The VPP has asked the state government to take immediate steps to release the funds in regard with implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the state.
VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh, in a statement issued here on Tuesday, said that the Centre had issued an order on June 26 for the release of the first installment of the first tranche of central assistance towards the material component for the year 2023-24 to Meghalaya amounting to Rs 301.94 crore.
He also said that early disbursal of the grant assumes significance for the rural populace that depends on the scheme to augment the limited means of livelihood.
