SHILLONG, Aug 2: The state government has expressed displeasure with the Assam government for frequently restricting the movement of cattle along the national highways passing through the neighbouring state.
Referring to instances when transportation of cattle to Meghalaya was restricted by Assam officials, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister AL Hek on Wednesday said Assam might have banned the transportation of cattle but cattle traders in Meghalaya have to use the national highways to import cattle from other states.
“We are using national highways and not any state road. The national highways belongs to everyone not any state,” Hek said while adding that even Meghalaya cannot stop movement of people or goods through national highways crisscrossing the state.
Hek said he has already taken up the matter with the chief minister and the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary minister of the neighbouring state.
