Shillong, August 7: The Lok Sabha Secretariat has reinstated the membership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. This decision comes three days after the Supreme Court suspended his conviction in a defamation case.

As per IANS, in an official communication from the Lok Sabha secretariat on Monday, it was announced that, in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling on August 4, the disqualification of Gandhi, which was enacted on March 24 earlier this year, has been reversed.

On August 4, the Supreme Court had temporarily halted Gandhi’s conviction in a defamation lawsuit filed against him. Previously, a Surat court had found him guilty and sentenced him to a maximum of two years’ imprisonment, leading to his disqualification from the Lok Sabha.

Despite the Gujarat High Court’s refusal to suspend the conviction, Gandhi had taken the matter to the Supreme Court, which ultimately resulted in his conviction being stayed.
