Shillong, August 8: Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa witnessed clashes and stone pelting during the Kanwar yatra celebrations on Monday. The situation prompted the police to employ lathicharge to restore order.

The incident transpired as the Kanwar yatra, organized by a religious group, was progressing through the Kaharwadi area of Khandwa. While the yatra had proceeded without disruptions along the city’s main routes, unrest erupted as it reached Kaharwadi, leading to stone pelting.

As per India Today, video footage captured the chaotic scene, with crowds scattering as police in protective gear intervened, using lathis to control certain individuals.

The district collector confirmed that a vehicle had incurred damage during the clashes and pledged stringent action against those responsible.

Despite the tumultuous events, the district administration assured that the situation was under control. Officials urged the public to refrain from believing or disseminating unfounded rumors. They also emphasized that no fatalities were reported and indicated that the police would scrutinize the recorded video footage of the clashes for further investigation.
