Centre grants Rs 12.30 crore for NE tourism projects

New Delhi: In a boost to North-East tourism, the Centre has approved over Rs 12 crore assistance for tourism projects in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Nagaland.

A central finance assistance of Rs 12.30 crore for various tourism development projects in the region was given by the Tourism Ministry with an aim to boost tourism infrastructure in the region, a senior Tourism Ministry official said.

The ministry has sanctioned Rs 89.10 lakh for development of tourist infrastructure at Buranilkantha, West Sikkim, a riverside location between Geyzing and Renchenpong.

The project involves development of an amenity block, construction of eco-friendly walkways and landscaping and beautification, the official said.

The ministry has given Rs 160 lakh for strengthening of wayside tourism facilities along the national highway in Sikkim circuit.

The project involves construction of car parks, amenities along NH-31A in Rangpo. The ministry has also granted Rs 160 lakh for displaying signs and hoardings to showcase and propagate tourism potential of Sikkim at various places like railway stations, bus stops and hotels, the official said.

The tourist circuit along Marchak, including Barchangey water site in East Sikkim, has got a grant of Rs 160 lakh.

For Arunachal, the ministry has given Rs 463.34 lakh for development of a mega tourist destination at Tawang. The project involves construction of guest house complex, restaurant, dormitory and development of waterfall viewing gallery, children’s park and amphitheatre.

For construction of a tourist complex at Hunli Lower Dibang Valley, an amount of Rs 98.05 lakh has been sanctioned.

The ministry has granted Rs 100 lakh for eco-adventure and culture destination at Kuhuboto, Nagaland, a virgin tourist destination rich in natural beauty. It is endowed with lush green mountains and valleys and mountain streams.

Kuhuboto is close to Dimapur, which is a destination for business and tourism. The project involves construction of budget hotel, tourist reception centre, open air theatre, public toilet, food court, parking area and cafeteria. (PTI)
