Airtel launches 5G services nationwide on 26 GHz spectrum

Shillong, August 9: Bharti Airtel has successfully introduced 5G services utilizing the 26 GHz spectrum across all 22 telecom circles in India. The deployment aligns with the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) stipulated criteria for meeting the minimum roll-out obligation, as stated by the telecom giant.

The company has adhered to the application and requisition standards outlined by the DoT to fulfill the minimum roll-out obligation norms. Consequently, testing has been conducted by the DoT in the Mumbai LSA.

As per IANS, Airtel highlighted the enhanced potential for 5G innovation and the creation of superior Airtel 5G Plus experiences for its customers with the broader 5G opportunities facilitated by the 26 GHz spectrum. The company expressed confidence in the significant capabilities demonstrated on the ground, signifying the growing momentum of 5G adoption.

Since the announcement of 5G in October of the previous year, Airtel has extended 5G services to nearly 5,000 cities and towns across India.

In its recent audited consolidated results for Q1FY24 ending on June 30, Airtel reported consolidated revenues of Rs 37,440 crore, marking a 14.1% year-on-year growth. Meanwhile, India revenues reached Rs 26,375 crore, showcasing a 13.1% YoY increase.
