SHILLONG, Aug 9: In a bid to work towards a common goal — tackle issues afflicting the indigenous communities of both the North East and South India — the KSU and All Tamil Nadu Students’ Association (ATSA) have decided to work together.
The members of the ATSA led by its president Vishnuram P, joint secretary, Rajarajacholan, treasurer Gideon Bala Singham, and adviser Ragu (Advisor) visited Shillong to meet the KSU leaders to deliberate over issues afflicting the indigenous tribes of the two regions.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah said that the ATSA has highlighted the problems faced by the Tamilians and other Dravidian tribes in India.
According to Thabah, they had also pointed out the issues afflicting the Khasi indigenous tribe.
He added that the two students’ bodies also discussed at length how the laws of the Centre are affecting the indigenous population of both the regions like imposition of the use of Hindi language and the illegal immigration of people from outside to either Meghalaya or Tamil Nadu.
“We have also discussed how to uplift and improve the education system and the livelihood in the two states,” Thabah said.
The KSU general secretary said that the ATSA also assured to help the Khasi students who are studying in Tamil Nadu, if they face any problem.
The members of ATSA also met the leaders of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) at Guwahati and similar resolutions were adopted.
