SHILLONG, Aug 9: Opposition Chief Whip Saleng Sangma has said that mere implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) will not be able to solve the issue of influx unless the concerned departments like Labour and Infiltration do not become disciplined enough to implement the same in letter and spirit.
Sangma lamented the lack of seriousness on the part of the concerned authorities to monitor the entry of people into the state.
Lamenting that the personnel manning the infiltration check gate at Byrnihat do not monitor the entry of people at night, Sangma said such callousness would defeat the very purpose of the ILP.
“We have the Infiltration branch, district councils, Labour department and laws like the Meghalaya Resident’s Safety and Security Act to check influx but illegal immigrants are still entering the state freely,” Sangma said while asking the Dorbar Shnongs to play a more effective role in keeping a tab on the people from outside staying in their localities.
