Shillong, August 13: Following violent clashes in Haryana’s Nuh on July 31, a Hindu group has gained police clearance for a mahapanchayat in Palwal.
The assembly will discuss resuming the Vishva Hindu Parishad’s Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra, which was interrupted by stone pelting during the clashes. The Nuh authorities initially rejected the request due to security concerns, but the Palwal Superintendent of Police has now granted permission.
As per India Today, the mahapanchayat, organized by Sarv Hindu Samaj, is set to convene in Pondri village, bordering Nuh. It aims to address the continuation of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession that was abruptly halted by violence in Nuh. The procession was met with opposition, leading to six fatalities, including two home guards and a cleric.
Devender Singh, a VHP division minister, stated, “All the Hindu groups decided to complete the yatra on August 28 which was attacked on July 31 in Nuh. Hope that the yatra will be completed with admiration and enthusiasm.”
The clashes erupted as VHP workers’ rally near Nand village in Nuh district was pelted with stones. Communal tensions escalated over reports of Monu Manesar, a cow vigilante and accused in the Bhiwani deaths case, visiting Mewat. Monu Manesar had been named in the FIR related to the deaths of Nasir and Junaid earlier this year. Their charred remains were discovered in a Bolero in Haryana’s Bhiwani district.
