Tripura is likely to be introducing generic medicine soon

Agartala: Tripura is likely to be introduced cent percent generic medicine in the public health establishment from current fiscal, said Director of Tripura Health Services Dr S R Debbarma on Monday.

He said the state government had been considering to replicate Rajasthan model so far as generic medicine use was concern and hoped soon the state-run hospitals would get generic medicine counter.

A group of doctors and health administrators had visited Rajasthan recently to get hands-on data about the model for use of generic medicine. Later in last month, Director himself and health minister Tapan Chakraborty had paid a visit to Rajasthan and interacted all stakeholders.

Health department has struck an understanding in collaboration with the Tripura State Cooperative Bank to start a pharmacy of generic medicine inside Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) complex in cooperative mode.

Tamil Nadu was the first state in the country to introduce 100 percent generic medicine, Dr Debbarma stated adding that in Tripura there would be prescription auditing for successful implementation of generic drug. (UNI)
