Tura, Aug 16: The A’chik NEHU Students’ Union (ANSU) in Shillong has strongly condemned the attack on one of its members by unidentified miscreants and urged NEHU authorities as well as the police and the state government to take strong action against the perpetrators.

According to the union, the incident took place on August 13 at NEHU hostel No. 20 at around 11 PM where one LLM student who also happens to be the Advisor of the union was attacked by unknown miscreants. An FIR has also been filed by the union in this regard.

“It is not a feud between Communities but amounts to disturbance of peace and tranquillity. The students who come from outside Shillong reside in the NEHU hostel as it is safe and convenient for them inside the campus. The University is supposed to be a place which moulds its students to be civilised and responsible individuals and such activities within the university must not be tolerated,” the union said, in its complaint to the University’s Vice Chancellor.

The union, while seeking action from the police, also demanded of University authorities that the perpetrators should not be allowed to stay in the hostel to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
