Shillong, August 16: Messaging platform WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has unveiled a new forwarding message feature designed for channels on both Android and iOS platforms.

The announcement was made through an official message on the channel, revealing that users can now share channel messages with their friends and family members. This new capability allows channel creators to expand their audience and attract new followers, ultimately enhancing their reach.

As per IANS, to determine the availability of the feature for their accounts, users can tap on a message and choose the ‘forward’ action. The forwarded message will include a new entry point to the channel, making it convenient for recipients to follow the channel by selecting ‘View channel.’

This feature has already been made accessible to some users who have updated WhatsApp for iOS via the App Store and WhatsApp for Android through the Play Store. It will be gradually rolled out to a wider user base in the upcoming days.

In a previous update, WhatsApp introduced channels to seven additional countries, including Egypt, Chile, Malaysia, Morocco, Ukraine, Kenya, and Peru. These channels serve as a one-way broadcast tool for administrators to send various types of content, such as text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls.

Furthermore, WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a message reaction feature for channels, with plans to introduce a new section named “Channel settings” for this purpose.
