Assam CM inaugurates several projects in Jorhat district

Guwahati, August 16/–/ Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for various projects worth Rs 286 crore in Jorhat district.

Fulfilling a longstanding dream of the residents of historic Jorhat district, Sarma inaugurated the newly-built three-lane railway over-bridge at Na-Ali.

Besides, the chief minister laid the foundation stone for a new connecting road to Rowriah Airport.

He also distributed sanction letters to 22 tea estates aimed at developing the tea tourism sector.

Moreover, Sarma also launched as many as 60 rural water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

On the other hand, the chief minister attended the closing ceremony of the platinum jubilee celebration of Assam Agricultural University (AAU) in Jorhat and inaugurated four projects for AAU.

Speaking at the event, Sarma lauded AAU for producing some of the finest human resources in the field of agriculture sciences who have made the state proud through their excellence in their professional fields.

He stated that owing to the achievements of AAU in the field of agriculture research, many institutions of eminence from across the country as well as abroad have started to take note of the Northeast’s premier agriculture education institution.

He said initiatives such as preservation and improvement of indigenous species of fishes and muga detection kit by AAU would go a long way in further strengthening the state’s agriculture economy.

The chief minister also said that agriculture research should, apart from promoting food security, contribute towards the welfare of farmers. “Besides, such research should also focus on promotion and conservation of biodiversity,” he added.
