Itanagar: The BJP in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday demanded that the state government come out clear on what basis it declared seven districts as minority concentrated and to announce the name of the communities identified as minority.

He said the state being a cent per cent tribal state and all are categorised as Scheduled Tribes (ST) under the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950.

“There should not be double standard communal role from the government in the name of minority package,” he rued.

Union minister of state for minority affairs Ninong Ering, who is from Arunachal, recently announced that 40 per cent of the state’s population came under minority population.

“Such steps will create confusion among the indigenous population of the state. The situation might worsen in future as illegal Bangladeshi migrants will take advantage of such schemes which might destroy cultural identity of the state in the long run,” Gao added.

Party state president Tai Tagak alleged that since 2006-2007, the state government was getting over 500 crore for carry out multi-sectoral developments programme for minorities in the state.

“Though the state government claimed that the amount was spent in all the districts, but there is no official record or data in this regards,” he alleged. (PTI)
