Two militants arrested in Arunachal operation

Itanagar: In an operation against underground activists, Arunachal Pradesh police arrested two cadres of United Liberation Council of Arunachal (UCLA) from Mahadevpur area in Lohit district.

Based on intelligence inputs, a team from Mahadevpur police station arrested the duo yesterday, Lohit SP Seju P Kuruvilla said on Wednesday. The arrested were identified as Bomkar Gara (25), a native of Likabali in West Siang district and Moken Gara (41) of Basar in the same district.

Police had been tracking the duo’s movement for the last couple of days. A letter pad of the outfit along with 2 mobile handsets, 2 SIM cards, and a vehicle used for extortion were recovered from their possession, the SP said. Lohit police had earlier registered two cases of extortion.

Interrogation revealed that Bomkar Gara was earlier associated with the National Liberation Council of Taniland (NLCT) and had been arrested in several criminal cases in East Siang, West Siang and Itanagar. Further interrogation of the accused was in progress and arrests of other members of the outfit are expected, Kuruvilla added. (PTI)
