TURA, Aug 21: The Chokpot Area Vigilance Committee (CAVC) recently met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and submitted a memorandum, urging the state government to put an end to the alleged illegal quarrying of stones from Dareng river.
Despite residents opposing the illegal activity the action still continues.
During the meeting, the CM assured to look into the matter and not to allow such activity if it contravenes with the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act, 1986.
Meanwhile, the Committee also met Chokpot MLA, Sengchim Sangma and apprised him about the illegal quarrying taking place in the region. The MLA has also ensured to reinvestigate the matter in order to amend the situation in the coming days.
