By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, Aug 23: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on Wednesday, admitted that health sector in Meghalaya is a more challenging area, while also acknowledging the ‘interventions’ for its improvement.
In this regard, the CM extended his gratitude to Nazareth Hospital for its contribution, after inaugurating the MRI facility of the hospital here.
Speaking at the inauguration, the CM thanked the staff of the hospital for the healthcare services, rendered especially for the people from economically challenged sections. “I would want to put on record my sincere appreciation to Nazareth Hospital,” he said. “Health sector has been one of the more challenging areas that we had to work with because of numerous problems that we had. But in the last five years, we have been working from a very holistic point of view of looking at the entire health and making interventions at different sections so that we are able to improve the health sector in the state,” the CM said.
According to the CM, his government’s approach to improving the health sector is not only limited to health and wellness services but also the lifecycle point of view. “We are very keen to ensure that we need to keep a tab and intervene right from the time a child is conceived till the child attains early adulthood,” he added.
He stated that interventions at every stage of life are important and not only when an individual’s health sinks.
The MRI machine was funded at a cost of Rs 25 lakh from Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund, while the chief minister also announced an additional Rs 25 lakh.
“The MRI facility here at Nazareth Hospital will greatly benefit the people especially those from the rural areas. I am happy to announce an additional assistance of Rs 25 lakh so that the people of our state can derive maximum benefits without having to travel to different places for an MRI,” he concluded.
