Shillong, August 24: Microsoft is currently looking into reports of a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) occurrence displaying an “UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR” error message on certain Windows 11 PCs subsequent to a recently launched update.

As per IANS, while the update contains routine monthly fixes, it appears to be triggering problems on specific MSI motherboards, as reported by The Verge.

A statement from Microsoft’s Windows Health Centre explains, “We are presently investigating to determine if this is an issue caused by Microsoft. We will provide an update when more information is available.”

Blue Screen errors, which are also referred to as black screen errors or STOP code errors, can arise when a significant issue forces Windows to unexpectedly shut down or restart. Messages like “Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer” might be displayed.

The origins of these errors can stem from hardware or software-related factors, according to Microsoft.

Reports on Reddit indicate that multiple users encountered the same BSoD following the update installation. Those affected are utilizing Intel systems on MSI motherboards with the latest BIOS updates.

Although the problematic update (KB5029351) has been removed from affected systems, it remains accessible for other users. The update underwent Microsoft’s standard progression, including Windows Insider testing, Release Preview ring assessment, and integration into retail Windows 11 copies, prior to the emergence of issues.

Concurrently, Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of its digital assistant Cortana app on Windows 11.
