SHILLONG, Aug 25: The Khasi Authors’ Society (KAS) is contemplating to hold a national seminar and, if necessary, demonstrations in New Delhi to push forward its demand for inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule.
“A national seminar will be held in Delhi in December and a demonstration will also be held at Jantar Mantar,” Arts and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh said on Friday.
Lyngdoh, who is also a member of the KAS, said the department will allot a plot of land measuring 5,000 sq ft at the Tribal Research Institute at Mawlai Iewrynghep to the KAS to strengthen its resolve to fight for the language recognition.
Khasi language has been studied at the graduation level in Kolkata University since the 1900s and it deserves recognition, he said.
