New Delhi: Fresh from their 0-2 loss to Afghanistan in the South Asian Football Federation Championship in Kathmandu on Wednesday, the Indian football team received bad news when the FIFA rankings were released on Thursday.

India have dropped a whopping 10 places to 155th spot.

The Indians were defending champions at the SAFF event.

Wim Koevermans’ team have 143 points in their kitty in the updated list.

By virtue of their lone international title, war-torn Afghanistan have move up seven places to 132nd spot.

India are now just one place ahead of the tiny European principality of Liechtenstein, a country sandwiched between Switzerland and Austria, which has a population of around 40,000.

In Asia, India are ranked 28th, one place behind Vietnam and ahead of Singapore.

Meanwhile, Argentina have climbed to second place behind World Cup champion Spain.

Argentina rose two places from fourth, knocking Germany down to No. 3.

Italy also qualified for the World Cup and jumped two spots to No. 4, while Colombia dropped two to fifth.

Belgium, Uruguay, Brazil, Netherlands and Croatia round out the top 10. (Agencies)
