Awareness prog on legal services for children protection

MAWKYRWAT, Aug 27: An awareness programme on NALSA Scheme focusing on child-friendly legal services and their protection, and Juvenille Justice (Care and protection of Children) Act 2015 was organised at Rising Secondary School, Sohkhyllam, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat, by the office of the District Legal Services Authority, South West Khasi Hills.
CJM and Secretary, DLSA, South West Khasi Hills, D Sohtun, spoke about the objective of the programme.
The NALSA (Child friendly Legal Services to children and their protection) Scheme 2015 envisages the basic rights and benefits that should be afforded to children and to enable them to understand the importance of their rights as enshrined under the constitution and various laws such as Child Marriage Restraint Act, Child Labour Prohibition Act, Juvenille Justice Act, POCSO Act, etc.
She also discussed the need for children’s right and its constitutional provision and policies of the government in safeguarding and protection the rights of children.
Others who were present include Headmaster of Rising Secondary School, Sohkhyllam, K Wanniang, and District Child Protection Unit, South West Khasi Hills, SR Kharkongngor, among others.
