NONGPOH, Aug 28: Two underage children inexplicably fall ill in a village of Ri-Bhoi district; this and the ensuing events prompt locals to suspect the supernatural — demon possession.
The incidents sent shockwaves through the local communities leading to the distressed families rushing to the Byrnihat Parish seeking divine intervention.
The first case, as per reliable sources, involved a young girl, who was an orphan and was being raised by her uncle. This girl had reportedly fallen ill out of the blue and lost consciousness early Monday morning.
During her unconscious state, she claimed to have dreamt of a mysterious lady attempting to take her along to bury her child.
Her uncle found her in a state of fierce struggle against the perceived demonic presence and acted swiftly to transport her to the sanctuary of the Byrnihat Parish.
Upon reaching the Parish, Father Kmenlang Nongrum, a respected spiritual leader in the community, conducted a fervent prayer aimed at exorcising the alleged demon spirit.
To the astonishment of those present, the girl gradually regained consciousness, as if the menacing force seemingly released its grip on her.
In a parallel incident, another girl experienced a similar distressing episode.
She too fell unconscious, and her family members suspected a possession by the demon spirit known as ‘Taro’.
Mirroring the actions of the first girl’s family, her loved ones hurriedly transported her to the Byrnihat Parish.
She eventually emerged from her unconscious state after prayers.
Overwhelmed with gratitude and relief, the families of both girls expressed their sincere appreciation for the efforts of Father Kmenlang Nongrum and other church elders.
They apparently firmly believed that the healing power of God had intervened to restore consciousness and well-being to the afflicted youngsters.
