Shillong, August 29: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Tuesday expressed concern over the presence of the non-tribal roadside hawkers who are operating at Iewduh Market without a trading license from the Council.

Speaking to reporters after the inspection of Iewduh market along with Executive Member in-charge of Market, Grace Mary Kharpuri and officials of the Council, KHADC CEM, Pyniaid Sing Syiem sad that it is impossible for the council to verify the antecedents of these roadside hawkers.

According to him, these roadside hawkers will need to apply the trading license from the council.
He also made it clear that it would not be easy to get the trading license due to its stringent procedures.

KHADC CEM also informed that the council would be installing CCTV cameras and streetlights at Iewduh market as part of the measure to ensure the safety and security of the people who visit the market.
Syiem also informed that the Council would also take steps for the maintenance of the cleanliness of Iewduh market.
