6 Rohingyas apprehended in Tripura

Guwahati, August 29: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) apprehended six Rohingyas from Dharmanagar Railway Station in North Tripura on Monday.

Five among the apprehended persons are women, official sources informed on Tuesday.

According to a statement from NFR, a joint team of the RPF and GRP (Government Railway Police), during routine checking, had detected suspicious activity among a group of people at Dharmanagar Railway Station.

On interrogation, the six persons could not produce any valid documents. Later, they revealed that they had entered India illegally and were residing at refugee camps near Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

Subsequently, all the six Rohingyas were apprehended and handed over to the officer in-charge of Government Railway Police station in Dharmanagar for further legal action.

Notably, as many as 232 illegal migrants (Rohingyas/Bangladeshis) have been apprehended by RPF in areas within the jurisdiction of NFR during January 1, 2023 till August 28. 2023.

“RPF staff deployed at stations and trains are always vigilant and alert towards illegal infiltration from border areas. RPF conducts steady routine checks at railways stations and trains to prevent such influx,” the official statement said.
