Guwahati, August 30: The flood situation in Assam remains grim with over 800 villages in 22 districts of the state still bearing the brunt of the deluge, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported.
No loss of human life was reported on Wednesday, the ASDMA flood bulletin informed. The total casualties in the current wave of floods remain at 15.
As on Wednesday evening, a population over about 3.40 lakh are affected with vast areas in districts of Barpeta, Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur and Udalguri lying submerged in the floodwaters.
A crop area of 21644.43 hectares in 18 districts has been affected by the floods, the ASDMA reported.
According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) bulletin on Wednesday morning, several rivers continued to be in spate. The Disang (Nanglamuraghat), Burhidihing (Chenimari(Khowang), Subansiri (Badatighat) and the Brahmaputra (Dhubri; Goalpara; Guwahati; Tezpur; Neamatighat) were flowing above danger level, the CWC bulletin reported.
Meanwhile, rescue operations are ongoing in various flood-affected areas, with officials from the circle offices, local administration, volunteers engaged in the operations. Eight medical teams have been deployed in four districts, including three each in Darrang and Dibrugarh.
Currently, 150 relief distribution centres are operational across 13 flood-affected districts while three relief camps are housing 1308 persons in Dibrugarh, Chirang and Udalguri.
On the other hand, owing to the rising water level of the Brahmaputra following incessant rainfall in isolated areas and submersion of approach roads, ramps and jetties, operation of all departmental boats, vessels in the Guwahati-based ferry services under inland water transport division have been temporarily suspended with effect from Tuesday, affecting daily commuters in several routes.
